We've always had a lot of whole grain, not processed food and produce, but earlier in the year we found out sugar was causing problems for our baby. So I cut her sugar immediately and have been slowly replacing everyone else's with fruits and grains. It's been hard enough to handle *my* sweet tooth, but the real challenge has definitely been convincing my other two kiddos that they do not need dessert each night or a donut each time we go shopping or sweetened yogurt. I feel like we have made huge progress (and I did lose 5 pounds too)! I *love* reading about other similar changes in families too!! And I had to laugh at the comment about kids and ketchup...my kids will put it on everything, lol! And it is hard to find ketchup without high fructose corn syrup!

~CarlaJansen Familyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02240254561478655994noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1757273551353259279.post-27490816631066812512014-08-01T19:28:07.942-04:002014-08-01T19:28:07.942-04:00Right on! Congratulations to you and your spouse!...Right on! Congratulations to you and your spouse! Losing weight and also practicing healthy eating is a wonderful step forward for all of you. Teaching the little ones how to eat healthily will send them into the future with good eating habits.
There are so many recipes these days, even for healthy muffins.

I don't eat fried food or anything with creamy sauces. I actually like the taste of food, especially if there are good spices and herbs used or other healthy flavorings.

Now, I have a bad sweet tooth. (I blame my father who had hidden stashes of sweets all over the place.) So I do indulge it. I love ice cream, too, but
I don't eat it. I eat Stonyfield Farm low-fat or no-fat frozen yogurt. Chocolate, vanilla or coffee is 400 calories a paint, and I sometimes eat a whole one.
I also buy Julie's chocolate bars at Whole Foods, 4 in a box. Healthy. Also has blackberry bars. There are also frozen yogurt bars there.
If I'm not at Whole Foods and am desperate in hot weather for a frozen bar, I get Skinny Cow chocolate bars (100 calories, use of ice milk) or
their truffle frozen bars, same calories. (Only problem is I eat too many as they are so chocolaty.) A friend who has lost a lot of weight told me
about Skinny Cow. But I try to eat the Stonyfield Farm if I'm going to indulge.

Going to a farmers' market is great. A neighbor goes weekly and brings back tons of produce, including delicious peaches for me. Better
than Whole Foods' peaches!

On cereal, I eat Uncle Sam's original, which has barely any sugar and four ingredients. It's high fiber, a good thing for adults, maybe not so for kids.
Children may not like it because it's not sweet, but I put in berries or even apple slices if desperate.

I do use skimmed or low-fat milk as I have to watch cholesterol, an issue as one ages. I also eat low-fat cheese (Cabot's cheddar slices are delicious.)
and yogurt. I put in fruit.

And on pizza -- I put a slice of good cheese on whole wheat bread, sometimes a slice of tomato, sometimes a few slices of Portobello musroom on
top and put them in a frying pan, heat them up and -- voila: my own almost-pizza. It works for me. It may not work for kids. (Also, Amy's has frozen
pizza along with other good dinners at not only Whole Foods, but my local supermarket.)

Congratulations on the weight loss and the new clothing purchases. That is great for one's ego. But also you and your spouse's health is so important, too.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1757273551353259279.post-83027900314565159962014-07-31T21:24:39.753-04:002014-07-31T21:24:39.753-04:00Such a wonderful post, Skye.
