I was a little late in getting these photos off my camera and edited, etc... well anyway here they are.
The day started off to be gloomy and even rained a bit. My In-laws came down to NJ to specifically go to the shore - and by george we were going to go no matter the weather! We walked on the 'Jenkinsons' Point Pleasant Boardwalk for a while... then decided to go on the beach even though there was a threat of rain. Sure enough as soon as we set up camp, it rained. Not a hard rain, but enough to be annoying. So I sat under our tent and took photos of the seagulls gobbling up the bread that the guy next to us was feeding them. I was ready to pack up and head back to the boardwalk and go to the aquarium.
Then the rain stopped... and within a few minutes, the gloomy clouds blew over and the sun came out! What a lucky break. And even better, not many other people were brave enough to linger on the beach due to the crummy weather. We couldn't have planned it better. So we were able to enjoy the last few hours of the day on the sunny beach without too many neighbors around us. Perfect.
See the crummy gray skies! This was at the end of the boardwalk at the inlet - we watched the boats come in and out from the inter-coastal waterway. Julianna loved watching and pointing to the boats.
You think Mommy (x-hairdresser) should be able to get Julianna's pigtails straight?? Sheesh! Bad Mommy.
Inter coastal inlet - pretty cool area to fish, watch boats or just sit on the bench & relax.

I caught this seagull (see his feet!) trying to steal the food from the one below him - he was the weakest link!
... And the sun came out!

Notice her feet safely tucked up on the seat. No sand was getting near her!
Feet up again. Did I mention these were all taken before this weekend when she discovered that the sand was not molten lava and would not eat her up.
Chillaxin'
Somehow this shot came out super cool - like a fish eye - I'm pretty sure if your lens is pulled in to 18mm and you get super close to your subject, it can have the fish eye effect. Neat.
Edit * I went back and checked - 100 ISO -18mm - F7.1 - 1/320
And you have to have one shot of the pruned tootsies!
(they were pruned from her sticking her feet in the bucket of water)

DeleteLove it! I can never get Hannah's pigtails straight either!!! (By the way, I'm so impressed that Julianna helps you unload the dishwasher. I have to be in a really mellow mood to let my kids help me with the dishes, I'm so afraid they will break something. Can you say control freak?)
ReplyDeleteYeah it's hard to get the pigtails straight when they are moving their head and wiggling all over the place- haha! I am quick but she is quicker! Oh yeah - the dish washer - well ... she insists on helping and i tell her ONE at a time - and she holds with both hands and big eyes - like it's a gold. SHe has only dropped one thing so far, and somehow it did not break... pheww! She is going though that phase where she likes to help with anything - she wanted to use the swiffer vac the other day but it's way too big for her. No go. LOL
DeleteHey, my sister lives in Brick and Point is one of the closest beaches! I actually worked there 2 summers during college. How far of a drive was that for you guys? Great pictures as always!!
ReplyDeleteIt's about 1 hr and 20 minutes from us door to door in the parking spot. Not too terrible. Definitely close enough for a day trip! I like the boardwalk there- it's much nicer than Sleeze-side Heights. I bet it's probably about the same for you guys - but in the other direction! We hadn't been to the shore in 2 years b/c we were not able to go when Julianna was first born, and then last year, we only went to the outer banks (NC) beach when we were on vacation ... this yer now that J likes the sand & ocean, we are probably headed there every weekend until labor day.
DeleteHi I'm a new follower--visiting from Nater Tot. I love your photos! What type of camera do you have? I'm looking to take some local adult ed classes to learn more about photography. Your little girl is absolutely precious. My little boy didn't want to step on the sand when he was younger either. Now that he's three turning four, I can't get him away from the dirt and sand (lol). "Chillaxin'" is now my new favorite word. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHi Annette! Thanks for finding me! :) Thank you for the compliment ... I have been trying hard to become a better photographer and I hope it's paying off! I also have a good subject (my daughter!) so that does help tremendously. I have a Canon T2i, which I got about a year & half ago. I love it - I shoot in manual all the time b/c it makes me think about the lighting and shot, etc. ALthough I don't always get the desired end result, I do learn from it when I see them on my computer.
DeleteIf you get a DSLR, I highly recommend taking a class on the basics either on Kim Klassen's blog ... or Clickin Moms... or Sweet Violet's blog. (sweetviolet.net) - ALl have excellent 'basics' for DSLR shooting in manual! Good luck - let me know if you do get one ;) From what I see, you take some nice pictures already :)
These are all so great, she is such a cutie and lol at the molten lava sand :0) I figured she was just chillin haha!! Thanks for that tip about the fish eye effect I'm going to have to try that for sure!! That shot is very cool!
ReplyDeleteTHanks! Luckily she has decided to walk on the molten lava since then LOL - thank goodness!! Yeah I discovered that if you pull back to 18mm and get up real close and kind of turn the camera nagle out, it gives it that cool wide angle look. Maybe I read that somewhere but who knows?! It's cool. I think I might want to get a 2nd hand wide angle lens to try out as my next lens .... hahaa! :)
DeleteYou lucked out with the sun coming out and not a lot of people around! Sounds perfect to me! These shots are amazing (as usual) :o) Love the pruned tootsies, but my favorite is that one of her looking out with the pigtails! The lopsided pigtails make the whole picture; I love it!!!!!
